St. Nikolai- the New Serbian Chrysostom – has won the hearts of the entire Orthodox Christian world. Earning doctorates in his youth in both Berne, Switzerland and Oxford, England, he went on to live through World War I and World War II, traveling throughout Europe and America lifting up his voice and prayer, and setting forth the truth in Christ for the falling West in more than 30 books and innumerable sermons and lectures in innumerable venues in churches, universities, and parliaments before falling asleep in the Lord at St. Tikhon Seminary here in America in 1956.
Lecture titles are as follows: Lecture #1 An Overview of the Life of St. Nikolai
Lecture #2 The Prologue from Ochrid and 100 Meditations on Love
Lecture #3 The Missionary Letters

God's Gift To The West: The Life and Teachings of St. Nikolai Velimirovich

These lectures are offered with hopes that they will inspire a vision for Christian living in marriage, elevate the aspirations of Christians in their conjugal lives, and serve as a protection against the inroads of degrading secularism in the home. Today Christian marriage is under terrible assault. The marriage culture in America is in serious decline, and many believers have little idea of what constitutes a “Christian” marriage. In this series, Fr. Josiah describes the nature of the Divine-Human marriage between God and His people, between Christ and the Church, as well as the contours of authentic marriage between believers in the Church. He also describes the sad decimation of marriage progressively taking place in our post-Christian and secular culture.

Christian Marriage and Secular Culture: What it Should be and What it has Become

This offering is the fruit of a three-day conference hosted by Patristic Nectar Publications, a collaboration of many clergy scholars, including the Keynote speaker - His Grace, Bishop Irenei of London, as well as Archimandrite Maximos Constas, Father Calinic Berger, Father Chad Hatfield, and Father John Parker. The lectures in this offering are dedicated to an edifying examination of the Great Feasts of the Mother of God, as well as additional lectures on particular aspects of the life of the Most Holy Theotokos and her role in the lives of Christian believers. Opening remarks, a letter from Metropolitan Joseph, closing remarks, and the Q&A sessions are included.

Patristic Nectar is pleased to present a new six lecture series by Father Josiah entitled The Supremacy of Christ: An Exposition of St. Paul’s Epistle to the Hebrews. The Epistle to the Hebrews was written to 1st century Jewish Christians suffering persecution for their Christian faith. Pressured and tempted to abandon Christ and return to their previous religion St. Paul sets forth the supreme glory of Jesus Christ above the prophets, the angels, Moses, Joshua, Aaron and the entire Old Covenant religious system. St. Paul exhorted these believers, and through them multiple successive generations of Christian believers to not neglect so great a salvation but hold fast to Jesus Christ: the same yesterday, today and forever.
Lecture #1 Jesus is better than the Prophets and the Angels
Lecture #2 Jesus is better than Moses and Joshua
Lecture #3 Jesus is better than Aaron and Melchizedek

Patristic Nectar Publications is pleased to present a new four-lecture series by Father Josiah Trenham entitled Churchmanship: Learning to Become a Faithful Parishioner. No person is born knowing how to live faithfully as a parish member. Faithful parishioners are made by God. This series is designed to set forth the traditional ecclesial vision for full-orbed church membership in which the spiritual dynamism of life in Christ is expressed in the fellowship of the local church where inspired service to God, each other, and to the world takes place. The four lectures are entitled: Lecture #1 Orthodox Church MembershipLecture #2 The Duties of Parishioners to Each OtherLecture #3 The Duties of Parishioners to Their PriestLecture #4 The Duties of Parishioners to the Mission of the Parish in the WorldThis series is available for free on the Patristic Nectar app.

Churchmanship: Learning to Become a Faithful Parishioner

Digital Audio - A broad introduction to Orthodox Christianity designed to expose the catechumen to the contours of Orthodox faith and life, aid priests in preparing catechumens to be received into the Church as well as edify Orthodox individuals seeking a better understanding of their faith.
For those seeking to become Orthodox, Catechism is a process of full-orbed Christian formation in which the Orthodox Christian life is inculcated in the learner through participation in divine services, prayer, study, community assimilation, and practice. At the heart of the catechetical process are the catechetical lectures delivered to the catechumens by the priest or the catechist. It is toward this goal of providing a usable introduction to Holy Orthodoxy that the sixteen lectures entitled An Orthodox Catechism have been developed by Father Josiah. This series has been utilized by Father Josiah in parish practice over the course of almost two decades to prepare more than 400 catechumens for reception into the Orthodox Church.
Not having an official Orthodox Catechism in the English language, many parishes and pastors scramble to put together a basic catechism that will adequately expose the inquirer and catechumen to the contours of Orthodox faith and life. It is hoped that this series will aid priests and parishes in preparing catechumens to be received into the Church, as well as edify Orthodox individuals seeking a better understanding of their faith.
These sixteen lectures are presented to catechumens in two parts. Part One: God, Man, Church is traditionally delivered over the eight weeks leading to the Feast of the Nativity of Christ. Part Two: The Holy Mysteries is delivered over the eight weeks leading up to Pasha, when catechumens are being prepared for reception into the Church on Great and Holy Saturday.

An Orthodox Catechism

Patristic Nectar Publications is pleased to present a new 8 lecture series entitled: The Original Church: Lectures on the Acts of the Apostles by Father Josiah Trenham. The Acts was written by the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke, as the 2nd part of his great literary masterpiece setting forth the Life of Jesus Christ in his Gospel, and then in the Acts showing forth the new Christian life made possible by the Lord’s great and saving deeds and the descent of the Holy Spirit. Here in these sacred pages we discover what St. Paul calls “new creation in Christ.”Here we discover what is the birth-right of Christians – that is the continuous miracle of church life. Lecture titles are as follows: Lecture #1 The Meaning of the Acts Lecture #2 Pentecost Lecture #3 Spiritual Life Lecture #4 Fellowship Lecture #5 Martyrdom Lecture #6 Conversion Lecture #7 Defending the Faith: The Jerusalem Council Lecture #8 The Missionary Journeys of St. Paul

The Original Church: Lectures on the Acts of the Apostles

In this reflection, Father Josiah Trenham explores the Christian virtue of temperance in the midst of violence. How can we respond to hostility, injustice, and the temptations of anger with restraint rooted in Christ? Drawing on Scripture, Patristic wisdom, and pastoral experience, Fr. Josiah offers a compelling vision of self-control and holiness.

The Beatitudes, or the blessings, pronounced by our Lord Jesus Christ upon His faithful followers constitute the opening salvo in our Savior’s most famous teaching, The Sermon on the Mount. In this series each beatitude is unveiled revealing the universal character of an authentic Christian. Those who inculcate these sacred dispositions manifest the face of Jesus Christ to the world. By incarnating the qualities of Jesus Christ our Savior, that is, poverty of spirit, mourning, gentleness, hunger and thirst for righteousness, mercy, purity of heart, peacemaking, and the joyful acceptance of persecution - believers become the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

Judgement Day

Introduction to the series The Sacred Canons: An Introduction to Ecclesiastical LawPatristic Nectar Publications is pleased to present a new four-lecture series entitled The Sacred Canons: An Introduction to Ecclesiastical Law by Father Josiah Trenham. The Holy Canons of the Orthodox Church are a part of the sacred deposit of the Christian faith, an essential expression of Holy Tradition given by the Lord Christ to His Church together with other portions of Apostolic Tradition like the Holy Scriptures, the Nicene Creed, the Lives of the Saints, the teachings of the Holy Fathers, the sacred arts, liturgical hymnody, and more. The collection of the canons is called the Pedalion, or in English, the Rudder. The Canons function in the Body of Christ as a rudder functions in a ship- guiding the vessel on its proper course and steering her into the green pastures of God’s providential blessing. In these lectures, you may obtain an overview of the Apostolic Canons, the Canons of the Ecumenical Councils and the Local Councils approved by the Ecumenical Councils, the Canons of the Holy Fathers (with special attention shown to the 92 Canons of St. Basil, the Great), as well as a concluding lecture surveying the canonical teaching on marriage.

Track 5 - (Chant) Ps.1 Blessed Is the Man

St. John of Sinai in his Ladder of Divine Ascent writes that the lives of the Saints arouse us to emulation of their courage, and lead us to the virtue of humility and compunction. Contemporary Saints are particularly important since they acquired their love for God and holiness in the midst of our current milieu, and demonstrate that spiritual acquisition is possible even in our own troubled times.

PNP is pleased to present Volumes 1 - 4 of the Philokalia for our listeners' edification. The Philokalia is the Church's treasure of sacred texts from the 4th-15th century dedicated to inner asceticism and prayer. These texts on the spiritual life - penned by masters of prayer and vigil - have guided our Christian forebears in that highest of all human endeavors - communion with the Living God by prayer. These audio texts have been professionally recorded, and are offered free.

Fasting and the Poor

Patristic Nectar Publications is pleased to present a new five-lecture series by Father Josiah Trenham entitled: The Nicene Creed: An Introduction. The Nicene Creed is the singular and universal statement of faith of the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. It possesses complete authority in the Orthodox Church and is recited in every Divine Liturgy, and daily in the prayers of the faithful. In these lectures, the Christian faith is summarized, and the content of the Creed itself is examined so that the “faith once delivered to the saints” can be known, embraced, and lived. Lecture #1 The History and Use of the Nicene Creed Lecture #2 The Almighty God Lecture #3 Jesus Christ, the Son of God Lecture #4 The Holy Spirit Lecture #5 The One Church

PNP is pleased to present a new six-lecture series by Father Josiah Trenham entitled Demonology: Understanding and Winning the Spiritual Battle. The study of the Church’s demonology is a part of basic catechism and Christian instruction. The Scriptures are replete with teaching on the dark powers. Additionally, it is impossible to appreciate the magnitude of the saving deeds of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, without understanding how He, and He alone, has conquered Satan and destroyed his works. Lastly, Christians are called to fight and win in the spiritual war, and for this reason, it is essential that believers understand their enemies and their tactics. Toward this end, Father Josiah presents in these lectures in-depth studies of the Scriptures, Divine Services, and pedagogy of great saints and teachers on the subject of Satan and spiritual battle.
Lecture titles include:
Lecture #1 Jesus and Satan
Lecture #2 Demonology in the Baptismal Rite and the Divine Liturgy

The Letter of Jude is perhaps the least known and studied book of the 27 books that constitute the New Testament. Written by the Holy Apostle Jude it is dedicated to calling the faithful of the Church to contend eagerly for the faith against the influence of false teachers. St. Jude issues a stentorian call for Christians to go deep, to maturely appropriate their own faith, and to fight for its integrity in their own lives and in the lives of their own parishes. Jude aggressively unmasks the satanic character of the false teachers of his time who abused the grace of God and promoted licentiousness. His call to Orthodox faith and holiness holds great relevance for Christians in the 21st century.

Patristic Nectar Publications is pleased to present a new 5-part lecture series entitled Yielded to God: The Life and Teaching of St. Seraphim of Sarov. The significance of the life of St. Seraphim upon contemporary Orthodox Christianity is so great that it is difficult to fully grasp. Though he was a humble Russian monk born in 1759 his influence has spread to become central and definitive in all the world-wide Orthodox Church. The life of the saints is a tapestry of a life wholly crucified to self and fully yielded to the will of God. His teaching on the purpose of Christian life as the acquisition of the Holy Spirit, and his great intimacy with the Most Pure Mother of God have captured the hearts of God-lovers and provided inspiration for spiritual acquisition for almost two centuries. Lecture #1 Yielded to God: An Overview of the Life of St. SeraphimLecture #2 Acquiring the Holy Spirit: The Purpose of the Christian LifeLecture #3 St. Seraphim and the Mother of GodLecture #4 Marriage, Monasticism, and the Saint’s Diveyevo NunsLecture #5 Spiritual Counsels

Reflection | Are We Worse Than Sodom and Gomorrah?

The nature of spiritual direction and eldership in the Church is unfolded through an examination of the lives of influential elders who have served Christ and who are either still living or have reposed in the Lord within the last 50 years. The lives and teaching of these seven great elders from Romania, Greece, England and America are majestic love gifts from the reigning Christ to His Flock on earth, and their radiant witness serves as a clear guide for all who wish to enter into the Kingdom of God.

Patristic Nectar is pleased to present a new 8 lecture series by Father Josiah Trenham entitled The Ecumenical Councils: Guarding the Christian Faith. The Orthodox Catholic Faith is a revelation from the Holy Trinity that upholds the entire universe. Throughout the history of the Church the true faith has been attacked by heresies, what St. Paul calls, the “doctrines of demons.” The Holy Church has definitively rejected these heresies and affirmed the true faith through her ecumenical councils. The dogmatic definitions and the canon laws of the ecumenical councils are understood to be inspired by God and expressive of His will for mankind. As such they are foundational sources of the doctrine and practice of the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

PNP is pleased to present a new four-audio lecture series by Father Josiah Trenham entitled Male and Female: Reflections on Transgenderism. These audio lectures directly address this latest iteration of the sexual revolution and the sexual anarchy unleashed by a cultural rejection of the Christian theological foundations of creation, anthropology, sexuality, and the traditional therapeutic paths of the Church. These lectures explain why Christians cannot reasonably avoid studying transgender ideology in today’s cultural climate, how this new world-view on sexuality finds itself deficient in explaining and healing our fallen human condition, and how love must compel believers to open their arms to persons seeking God from a transgender background. Lecture titles are:Lecture #1 Transgenderism as Social ContagionLecture #2 The Significance of Male and FemaleLecture #3 The Church’s Witness to and Pastoral Care of Transgendered PersonsLecture #4 A Basic Catechesis on Transgenderism

Male & Female: Reflections on Transgenderism

A discourse on the important subjects surrounding the nature of Holy Scripture and its relationship to the Church of Christ. Subjects addressed include the miracle of inspiration, the nature of Scripture as the words of the Word - the very speech of the Holy Trinity; the inspired process and criteria of the canonization of Scripture; the Bible as a locus of spiritual experience, a Theophany and spiritual medicine against the passions; how the Scriptures are utilized in the liturgy and the Christian home; and how to avoid the false dichotomies between the Church and the Bible, Truth, and Jesus Christ.

The lantern procession tradition on St. Martin's Day, celebrated on November 12, is a cherished tradition honoring St. Martin of Tours (397 AD).

In Germany, children make lanterns and parade through the streets, singing songs. The lanterns shining in the dark are often interpreted as symbolizing the light of Christ, a particularly appropriate image for the beginning of the Nativity Fast (November 15th). St Martin is a beloved Saint celebrated throughout the world and is known for his merciful compassion on the needy. St. Martin's Day is celebrated on November 12th in the Eastern Orthodox Church.

Lecture 2: The Priesthood according to the Cappadocian Fathers

A presentation of the lives of eight saintly Kings of the first Christian millennium. By the example of these kings Christians are able to gauge what is really valuable in a political leader. Lives of Ss. Constantine the Great, Theodosios I, Justinian the Great, Alfred the Great, Boris of Bulgaria, Vladimir of Kiev, Stephen of Bulgaria, and Edward the Confessor of England are presented. These kings established a model of godly political rule for Christendom, and continue to provide a shining witness of faith in Jesus Christ. In the political realm corruption is so often the norm, but these great kings of the past demonstrate that holiness is possible even in politics.

"The Way of The Lord" with Fr. Jason (Mark 1:1-8)

Patristic Nectar Publications is pleased to present a new six-lecture series by Father Josiah Trenham entitled Let Everything That Hath Breath Praise the Lord: The Psalms in the Divine Services. The Psalter is the supreme hymn book of the Church of Christ, and individual psalms – thematically selected to accentuate the core purpose of each worship service – are appointed to be read and/or chanted in each service. Father Josiah explains the significance of the particular Psalms that are found in the Divine Liturgy, Orthros, Vespers, Compline, as well as the exceedingly important and popular Shepherd Psalm 22, Repentance Psalm 50 – used in many liturgical services, and the Word of God Psalm 118. Father also begins each lecture with a brief discussion of particular commentary on the Psalms from different Holy Fathers.Lecture 1 - Psalm 50: The Psalm of Repentance.Lecture 2 - Psalm 1: The Godly ManLecture 3 - Psalm 103: The Psalm of CreationLecture 4 - Psalm 118: The Psalm of the Word of GodLecture 5 - Psalm 22 The Good ShepherdLecture 6 The Orthros Psalms

Lecture 5 - Engaging the Unseen Warfare, Fr. Lorenzo Scupoli and St. Nicodemos of the Holy Mountain

Fr. Josiah exposits the Book of Revelation verse by verse in order to give the reader insight into both the original meaning of the text to its 1st century audience and a practical application of its message to the Church today. The Revelation of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian completes the New Testament Canon. It is both an end and a beginning, as it unveils to the Church both the cataclysmic conclusion of this falling age, and the ushering in of the New Heavens and New Earth where righteousness dwells forever. The Revelation, or the Apocalypse, as it is traditionally known, is a unique genre of literature among the 27 books of the New Testament known as "apocalyptic." In 22 sacred chapters St. John reveals the zeal of the Risen Lord Jesus Christ to maintain the purity of His Church, and to lead Her victoriously into His eternal Kingdom. Under numerous symbols and images, as well as dramatic and confrontational historical depictions, the nature of the war in heaven and on earth is revealed between the Church of Jesus Christ and Her enemies: the dragon, the beast, the false prophet, the harlot and those in alliance with evil. The message of the Lord to His much-suffering Church of the 1st century and today is this: Be faithful to the end, for the Lord is coming quickly to reward those who hold fast to His Name.

The Sign of the Cross

The 20th century was the most violent century in human history as 19th century German Marxism was instituted by violent revolution and thoroughly applied by dictators in many countries around the world leading to the deaths of more than 100 million people- many by execution, starvation and the Gulag, and the gathering into heaven of the largest number of Christian martyrs in Church History. These lectures survey the personal lives and ideology of five of the most brutal tyrants, and offer reflections upon the principles behind their tyranny – principles that continue to threaten the West today and are appearing in mainstream American politics.

Lecture 2: The Letters of St. Ignatius of Antioch

In these enlightening lectures Father Maximos elucidates the meaning of confession, and provides many practical insights into the significance of spiritual direction from the Letters of Ss. Barsanuphius and John. These two great saints of the Church, who lived in Gaza of Palestine in the sixth century, were highly-esteemed hermits who lived in relative isolation from the world, but conducted extensive correspondence with people from all walks of life and levels of society: laymen, soldiers, priests, monks, bishops and others. Their letters are remarkable for the view they give us into the process of spiritual guidance, since these letters preserve not just a question and an answer, but a series of letters recording an ongoing conversation. Though many of these letters were written to monks, they contain teachings and principles of spiritual life that are relevant to everyone who seeks to know and love God.
