For those seeking to become Orthodox, Catechism is a process of full-orbed Christian formation in which the Orthodox Christian life is inculcated in the learner through participation in divine services, prayer, study, community assimilation, and practice. At the heart of the catechetical process are the catechetical lectures delivered to the catechumens by the priest or the catechist.&nbsp; It is toward this goal of providing a usable introduction to Holy Orthodoxy that the sixteen lectures entitled An Orthodox Catechism have been developed by Father Josiah. This series has been utilized by Father Josiah in parish practice over the course of almost two decades to prepare more than 400 catechumens for reception into the Orthodox Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Not having an official Orthodox Catechism in the English language, many parishes and pastors scramble to put together a basic catechism that will adequately expose the inquirer and catechumen to the contours of Orthodox faith and life.&nbsp; It is hoped that this series will aid priests and parishes in preparing catechumens to be received into the Church, as well as edify Orthodox individuals seeking a better understanding of their faith.
These sixteen lectures are presented to catechumens in two parts. Part One: God, Man, Church is traditionally delivered over the eight weeks leading to the Feast of the Nativity of Christ. Part Two: The Holy Mysteries is delivered over the eight weeks leading up to Pasha, when catechumens are being prepared for reception into the Church on Great and Holy Saturday.

St. Nikolai- the New Serbian Chrysostom &ndash; has won the hearts of the entire Orthodox Christian world. This godly bishop was not only a great shepherd of his much-suffering Serbian people, but a Spirit-illumined theologian who spoke the word of truth into the very heart of the darkness of the 20th century. The second part of this series is five talks given by His Grace, Bishop Basil of Wichita, at a men’s retreat in Kansas in 2008. St. John of Kronstadt, the Wonder-Worker, served God in Russia during the second half of the 19th century and fell asleep in Christ in 1908. His life, miracles, and teaching have been cherished by believers as God’s love gift to the Church and to the world on the cusp of the 20th century, the most violent century in the history of humanity.&nbsp;These lectures and discussions reveal the beauty of a life lived supremely in and for Jesus Christ the Lord.

Lazarakia for Lazarus Saturday

Jesus raised his friend Lazarus from the dead, and we commemorate this miracle and saint tomorrow on Lazarus Saturday. 

Your family can have a tangible way to participate in this feast by making this traditional bread.

🍞 Ingredients 
6-1/3 cup (800g) of all-purpose flour
1-1/2 cups of lukewarm water
1 packet of yeast
3/4 cup of sugar
1 tsp of cinnamon
1/4 cup of olive oil
1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves (optional)
1/4 cup finely chopped walnuts (optional)
1/4 cup raisins (optional)
whole cloves or chocolate chips to decorate the eyes 
✍🏽 Instructions
Mix the dry ingredients (including yeast) together and knead for 1 minute, then add oil and lukewarm water. 
Knead well until the batter becomes a nice soft dough. You can now add in nuts or raisins if using. Cover and let the dough rest for about 45 minutes in a warm place.
Preheat the oven to 400°F . 
Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. 
To shape each of the balls into small men, roll them out into an oblong shape, create a small ball to place as the head and press on top, and form two skinny strips and place them across the body in the shape of an “x” to represent arms. 
Insert 2 whole cloves or chocolate chips on the head to create the eyes. Should make 15-20 Lazarakia, depending on the size.
Place the Lazarakia on the baking sheets. Bake for 20 minutes or until the bread rolls turn golden brown. Cool before serving.

The Beatitudes, or the blessings, pronounced by our Lord Jesus Christ upon His faithful followers constitute the opening salvo in our Savior&rsquo;s most famous teaching,&nbsp;The Sermon on the Mount.
